Statement of Intent

1. Identify the goals of the project: I want to create a CD program for middle school teachers to use in orientations to improve their skills of working with minority students.
2. Why is it important and why should we care? The achievement gap between privileged students and disadvantaged students is growing everyday, and it is important to make sure that those unfortunate enough to end up on the bottom of the social ladder can have an equal opportunity earn a good education.
3. How do these goals fit with your career objectives? My career goals include the medical field. In a long-term perspective, educated people are healthier and take of themselves more, which means that they will be less likely to end up in the hospital.
4. How does your project give back to society? I want to make sure that future generations will have skilled workers of all kinds of backgrounds to efficiently improve society.
5. The Richland triple bottom line: People- I wish to help the disadvantaged students improve their education. Economics- I want to lessen the unemployment rates by improving these children's education from a young age, which will hopefully lead them to getting a steady job in the future. Environment- The more educated people become, the more likely they will be capable of taking care of the environment.
